Pigtails & Crewcuts is targeting the Greater Tampa area as a key growth market for its next wave of franchise development. With brand awareness already strong throughout Central Florida, the company is now actively looking to award four to five new territories throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.
“The Tampa market is a hot market because there are so many children in such an affluent area,” said Michelle Holliman, Vice President of Franchise Development at Pigtails & Crewcuts.
The brand sees opportunity throughout the region — from St. Petersburg to the suburbs of Tampa and beyond — where demographic and economic trends point to high demand for family-friendly services.
"There are so many opportunities for additional salons, like in St. Petersburg, for example," Holliman said. "We have great validation in neighboring markets, and we believe that we can continue to grow in that market because the need is there.”
While Holliman acknowledges that competition exists in metro areas like Tampa, she says that Pigtails & Crewcuts is prepared for that — and has done the necessary research to ensure sustainable growth.
“There's some competition there, but like any other metro market … there's always going to be competition and that's okay," she said. "We are not afraid to go into markets that have competitive situations. We believe that there's additional room for salons in the Hillsborough and Pinellas County areas."
In neighboring parts of Florida, franchise owners have seen strong performance in markets such as Clermont and Orlando. That success, paired with Pigtails & Crewcuts’ overall brand recognition in Florida and family-focused communities, positions Tampa as an ideal next step for development.
As the brand looks for its next round of franchise owners, Holliman says background doesn’t matter as much as mindset.
“Our franchise owners come from all walks of life. They have different backgrounds,” she said. “So somebody willing to bring their strengths to the table, work with us and be coachable — to understand there are reasons why we do this — can be very successful.”
As the Tampa area continues to rank high for new business growth, family-friendly amenities, and entrepreneurial resources, Pigtails & Crewcuts sees this as the right time to expand with the right owners.
“We really look for someone excited to work with children, be a leader, and give back to their community, really matching our core values,” Holliman said. “You don’t have to have children, but you have to understand that getting a haircut can be emotional.”
With a proven system and extensive franchisee support, Pigtails & Crewcuts offers a hands-on approach to growth and training, especially when entering a new market.
“We want to make sure that when we go into a market — whether we’re the first to enter or joining an area that already has a location — we’re working together,” Holliman said. “We look at a market, make sure that it’s not oversaturated with competition, and confirm there are enough children for the business to be successful.”
