Jacksonville, Florida, is known for its rich architectural heritage, and Logan Brown is on a mission to help preserve it. After spending 14 years hauling cars for brands like Land Rover and Jaguar, Brown decided it was time for a career shift. In 2024, he officially opened his Preservan franchise, bringing a revolutionary wood rot repair service to the historic city.
For Brown, the decision to invest in a Preservan franchise was deeply personal. “I’ve always had an eye on restoring old windows, doors and things like that, so I naturally gravitated toward this,” he said. “I never thought I would actually own a franchise. That never even crossed my mind. I just wanted to open up a window restoration business in Jacksonville. And then I saw this, and I was like, ‘Wow, this is pretty interesting.’”
Preservan is a category-creating franchise in the home services industry specializing in eco-friendly wood restoration and repair that preserves building materials instead of replacing them. Established by industry veteran Ty McBride, Preservan stands out because of its unique 100% epoxy-based wood rot repair technology that offers a sustainable alternative to traditional wood replacement. This method saves homeowners millions of dollars each year while preserving architectural heritage and craftsmanship.
A New Perspective on Franchising
Initially, Brown had reservations about franchising, believing he would need to build a business from the ground up to truly make it his own. But after learning about Preservan’s model, he quickly changed his perspective.
“I don’t want to say I had a negative view of franchising, but it was just something I didn’t see myself doing,” he said. “I thought that if I started my own business, I would just start my own business. I wouldn’t choose a franchise. But I saw this, and I thought, ‘This is why people buy franchises.’ Everything is set. You have your logo, your support team — Preservan already has it figured out.”
What Makes Preservan Stand Out?
Brown was particularly drawn to Preservan because of its unique business model, which offers an innovative and cost-effective alternative to traditional wood rot repair.
“I have this saying: ‘Competition is for losers,’” Brown said. “Whenever I’m afraid of competition, I go back to that saying. And then I’m at peace with the fact that it’s okay to have competitors — that’s the name of the game. You have to constantly innovate. But Preservan doesn’t really have any direct competitors. The closest thing would be contractors, and let’s be honest, nobody really likes contractors all that much. They’re generally more expensive, and this offers an alternative. I would say it’s the more affordable, less hassle alternative to fixing your problem with wood rot.”
A Vision for Growth
Brown has ambitious plans for his Preservan business. While his current focus is on Jacksonville, he envisions expanding throughout the city and beyond.
“I’d like to own all four territories in Jacksonville and maybe somewhere else, such as New Orleans,” he said. “I love Jacksonville because I live here, but it’s also the hub for historical houses in Florida. There are more historic homes here than in any other city in the state. I want to be one of the many pillars of historical preservation in Jacksonville. That’s why I got into this business in the first place. I do not like when people tear out their old, hundred-year-old windows that were meant and designed to be rebuilt. We can come in, repair them, and they’ll last another hundred years if glazed properly.”
Advice for Aspiring Franchisees
For those considering franchise ownership, Brown offers a simple but powerful message: start now.
“Never settle. Start now. Look now, because if you look two years down the road and say, ‘I’ll do this for another two years,’ well, those two years are coming to pass anyways,” he said. “You might as well just start now. And in two years, you’ll set yourself up for a better future where you actually want to be. So just start now. Don’t start tomorrow. And then keep the ball rolling. Don’t be afraid to sacrifice things. Whatever you can get done today, just do it today, and your future is hopeful.”
He also encourages others not to let doubt hold them back. “If you’re thinking about it and you want to do it, just do it,” he said. “If you ran the numbers, if you did your homework, then just do it. Don’t let doubt stop you, because we always stop ourselves.”
Preserving the Past, Building the Future
With his Preservan franchise, Brown is not only building a business but also making a lasting impact on Jacksonville’s historic architecture. As he expands, he remains committed to the core belief that historic preservation isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about honoring craftsmanship, sustainability and community heritage.
