Pret a Manger Confirms 2nd Customer Died From Allergic Reaction

An investigation is underway into a second fatality after an allergic reaction was connected to mislabeled products at restaurant chain Pret a Manger.

A second customer of restaurant chain Pret a Manger died after eating a sandwich containing an allergen that was not noted on the label, the company has confirmed.

According to a CNBC article, Pret a Manger vowed to improve its labeling following criticism stemming from an inquest last month into the death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, 15, who died of an allergic reaction on a flight in 2016 after eating a Pret a Manger baguette with traces of sesame at London-Heathrow airport.

The company said an investigation was underway into a second case, in which a customer died in December after eating a supposedly dairy-free product that contained dairy protein. Pret a Manger placed blame on its dairy-free yogurt supplier for the most recent mislabeling, an allegation the supplier denies.
