Seeking a new opportunity where she could help people in need, local resident Rebecca Gilbert-Johnson decided to bring Right at Home, the brand that helps seniors and adults with disabilities live independently, to Tollan County, Connecticut.&nbsp;After witnessing her 99-year-old grandma benefit from in-home assistance, Gilbert-Johnson began to see aging in place as the new normal for the senior population. Knowing that the community can benefit from the services it offers, the entrepreneur will open Right at Home this June. She also hopes to expand all throughout the northeast corner of Connecticut in the future.1851 Franchise spoke to Gilbert-Johnson about her franchising journey with Right at Home.&nbsp;1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Gilbert-Johnson:&nbsp;After being in another field since 1997, I began looking for a new opportunity and seeing aging in place as the new norm for the senior population. Right at Home is a great way for me to serve the population while allowing myself the opportunity to be a business owner. My grandma, who is currently 99, has an in-home helper assisting her, so I am very familiar with the services. My friend also owns a Right at Home in Old Saybrook, and it’s done really well. I became aware that they had an open territory in my hometown, so it was the perfect opportunity for me.&nbsp;1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Gilbert-Johnson:&nbsp;I’m still in the&nbsp;beginning stages, so it’s tough to give any advice. My perception of franchises prior to becoming a franchisee was Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonald’s and Subway. All food service type businesses. I never gave much thought to the home franchise industry. This type of business was never anything that I thought I would own or have an opportunity to own. To be able to be a part of a franchise is really exciting. I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve the seniors in my area. I am looking forward to building strong relationships with my clients and family needs.1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Gilbert-Johnson:&nbsp;Right at Home has been in business since 1995. They offer full support and guidance. This has been very helpful for me in this process.1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Gilbert-Johnson:&nbsp;I have huge plans for my business. I know there is a need. I am excited to have the resources to enable seniors to stay in their own environment. All of my energy will be channeled toward building community relationships. If it goes well and there’s more available franchisees, I’d love to expand.1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Gilbert-Johnson: I am so grateful for this amazing opportunity. My location will be serving the northeast corner of Connecticut. I have the knowledge and resources to promote a safe, structured, positive environment for the aging population.
