New Sylvan franchisees Maila and Anil Singh are opening the brand’s newest learning centers in St. Johns County, Florida, aiming to support local families with high-quality, in-person tutoring, The Recorder recently reported. After moving from New York, the Singhs saw an opportunity to contribute to their new community by offering Sylvan’s tech-driven and confidence-building educational programs.
The Singhs were drawn to Sylvan’s adaptive assessment tools and low student-to-teacher ratios, as well as its emphasis on hiring only certified educators.
“We don’t use high school kids or college kids,” Anil said. “All of our tutors are professional teachers. All are required to be certified, to have an active license or to have held an active license.”
The Singhs celebrated the grand opening of their center in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, on May 17. The couple is working to open two more locations in St. Johns County — St. Augustine (opening August 2) and Julington Creek (opening later this year). Their franchise has already partnered with local nonprofit St. Augustine Youth Services, donating 50 hours of tutoring to support students in need.
“We want to be good stewards of our community,” Anil said. “This is where we live; this is where we play. This is where I want my kids to live and play. We want it to be a nice place.”
