What can you do to bring out the 'A game' of your multi-unit leaders?Promotions can be an amazing opportunity to grow personally and professionally and often receive a higher salary to boot. But unfortunately, that process doesn’t always work out or go so smoothly.I frequently see extremely talented General Managers (GM) earn a promotion to District Manager (DM) — sometimes also called an Area Manager (AM) or Multi-Unit Leader (MUL). And interestingly, despite how qualified and well-suited for the position they may seem, they actually fail in this new role instead of thrive.Mentoring does lead to greater success, yet in practice, it can be a difficult program to implement. And understandably so because, quite frankly, everyone already has so much on their plates.Instead of having these multi-unit leaders mostly flounder and “learn on the job,” mentorship offers the opportunity to shorten the learning curve by providing more consistent support along the way.Considering that MULs can impact dozens of GMs, hundreds of employees, and thousands of customers, pairing up an established MUL with a new leader for a few weeks seems like a much smaller sacrifice.
