Most people have to travel for their job. Whether it’s for conventions, meeting clients, prospecting markets, etc… the truth remains that in today’s world, technology is needed to ensure that you complete your task list while on the road. Tech gadgets continue to improve in order to make it easier to work while traveling. With the amount of technology that exists, “I was on the road so I wasn't able to get to that project” is no longer a valid excuse. 1851 Magazine breaks down a list of gadgets that allows you to travel and continue with your work day as if you were in the office. MiFi MiFi devices have made wireless internet connections accessible anywhere that your wireless provider has coverage, allowing you to work while on a long road trip (please don’t use devices while driving). MiFi devices will also help cut costs of expensive internet passes that some hotels are now making guests buy. Microsoft Surface/iPad/Nexus 10 In order to work on that long road trip with your MiFi, you have to use some sort of device that allows you to check and respond to emails, create PowerPoints and build spreadsheets. These three devices will allow you to work in the small space you have in the back seat of the designated rental car. While all three devices will allow you to do so, the Microsoft Surface takes the cake for the most productive light weight portable device as it comes with a version of Microsoft Office that allows you to do all your daily work tasks. Smartphone So, you don’t want to dish out the $800 to get through all your work tasks while you travel. Well, smartphones continue to improve and bridge the gap between the office and being mobile. A quality smartphone will allow you to check your emails, look at documents and make phone calls. If push comes to shove, your smartphone will allow you to call your office and delegate tasks to fellow employees. The workplace does not stop when you are on the road so smartphones ensure that you are still connected when you are out of the office. Kindle Work travel is often a good opportunity to catch up on your reading. Reading can help ease and exercise the mind. If you’ve completed your tasks for the day or are traveling outside of office hours, make sure to fit in some down time into your busy travel schedule. The Kindle allows you to read books on the go without the hassle of adding 2-8 pounds of extra luggage.
