According to an article on Modern Restaurant Management, “2019 is set to be the year of mobile restaurant tech. Whether that’s mobile POS systems running on tablets, the ability to accept mobile payments, or ordering kiosks for self-service, mobile devices will rule the restaurant world this year.”

Given the rise in popularity of third-party delivery apps like Uber Eats and GrubHub, developments in cloud software and universal API offerings, the restaurant industry is quickly adapting to integrate their technologies. With “mobile POS systems” as “a mainstay of the restaurant industry” it “only makes sense that the technology will expand in the year to come,” the article said.

The article named “restaurant reservations software,” “restaurant management software” and “restaurant delivery/takeout software” as the three sites of anticipated development. With “ghost restaurants,” or restaurants that “forgo the front of house seating and customer interaction and focus solely on operating a kitchen that prepares orders for deliver,” cropping up daily, mobile technology can only increase, the article said.
