When Nathan Hokenson discovered TruBlue Total House Carethe franchise that provides subscription-based home maintenance and handyman services for seniors and families, he saw a way to merge his passion for helping his local community with his diversified skill set.

From a young age, Hokenson loved completing home improvement projects with his father, who worked as a contractor his entire career. He comes from a lineage of craftsmen and has worked in everything from commercial fishing and medical sales, to firefighting and being an EMT.

Hokenson decided to pursue business ownership to create time for his daughter and to be there for his aging parents. This July, Nathan will open Gig Harbor and Tacoma, Washington’s first TruBlue Total House Care franchise to help local seniors modify their homes to age safely in place.

“I’ve always thought I would own my own business, and as my daughter got older, the idea became more and more appealing because I could make my schedule cater to her needs,” he said. “My parents, who are also in the Gig Harbor community, are also getting older, so I knew owning my own business would provide me with more time to dedicate to them as well.”

At first, Hokenson thought franchising would be outside of his financial abilities. However, after researching the industry, he discovered that many franchises are affordable, with TruBlue Total House Care standing out for that reason, among others.

“There are potential risks whenever you go into business ownership, with or without franchising,” he said. “Still, I decided to invest in myself and will have the support of a proven brand behind me.”

As he began exploring opportunities in the franchising industry, TruBlue Total House Care caught Hokenson’s eye because its services matched perfectly with his needs with his own parents.

“As my parents have gotten older, they’ve struggled to keep up with the maintenance of their home on three acres of land, and I’ve done projects around their house to make it safer for them to age in place,” he said.

Hokenson shortly realized that if he had this need, the rest of the community, which has a growing Baby Boomer population, was also probably in need of a business like TruBlue. In fact, Hokenson said he did not need to look at other brands when making his franchising decision because of the way TruBlue meshed so well with his existing strengths and passions.

After first learning about TruBlue, Hokenson researched extensively and connected with franchisees around the country. He then inquired about franchising with the company just three short months later.

“I’ve had a passion for home improvement projects from an early age. I’ve viewed home improvement projects as therapeutic,” he said. “The brand’s core values and mission align so well with my own. It’s not simply a handyman home care service, but focuses on providing safety for the community and improvement for everyone.”

Having built many close relationships with the people in his community, Hokenson hopes to  continue to contribute by helping to maintain what he says is their “most valuable investment.” He plans to grow and build in the area and is currently focused on building his first territory, providing the highest quality customer and employee care.

“I’m a single dad who is so excited to create something positive in the local community and show my daughter that hard work and dedication can pay off,” said Hokenson. “Pushing yourself outside the comfort zone is where true personal and professional growth takes place.”

TruBlue is actively seeking new franchise owners in markets across the country and has identified Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and Naples, Florida, as well as Dallas and Austin, Texas, as key development markets.

“Nathan is a great addition to the TruBlue family, and we are excited to see his impact on his community with TruBlue’s much-needed service,” said Sean Fitzgerald, TruBlue’s President

The total investment estimate for a TruBlue Total House Care franchise ranges from $65,050–$91,400. To learn more about franchising with TruBlue, please visit https://trubluefranchise.com/.
