How Much Does it Cost to Open TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®?
When looking to buy into a franchise, finding the best bang for your buck can be incredibly important at the start of a business.
In a time when so many Americans are seeking to make a career change, franchising offers an opportunity for them to take ownership of their income through investing in their own business. Choosing the right franchise can be a difficult process and, oftentimes, cost of entry can be a major factor at play in that final decision.
Cheryl Ackley, Franchise Development Specialist at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, said that considering the size of the territory can play a factor in the price. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, for example, offers two types of markets: a Mini-market territory that can be run between $100K - $192K and the Standard Market that runs between $179K - $585K. Ackley said there are a lot of variables that can go into that final price, such as authority fees, site selection, equipment, leasing and transportation.
“Initial investments may vary by state or region,” said Ackley. “Due to the difference in licensing, insurance and commercial rental rates.”
In a turbulent economy, franchise candidates want to be sure they have the support needed to survive in the initial opening stages. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Multi-unit Franchisee Mike Reps said the resources that corporate can provide throughout the start-up process are critical. “TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® was huge during the onboarding process,” said Reps. “They really provided everything we needed.”
A good franchisor will provide a range of resources, from human resources services, a unified employee handbook, marketing to get the word out to local markets, and field assistance to guide the new franchisee and their new team through the onboarding process.
“Their team even called weekly in the first couple of months just to check in and answer any questions,” said Reps. “I’ve been extremely happy with the amount of help and guidance we received.”
For so many franchisees, the promise of a recession-proof industry and franchise is detrimental to their final decision to franchise with a specific brand. There are characteristics to look for when considering a franchise, one being a continuous and steady need for the franchise’s services. For example, Ackley says the necessity for moving services is constant.
“Throughout the last 35 years, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has understood that moving under varied circumstances, especially now during a pandemic, can be incredibly stressful,” Ackley said. “Revenue diversification such as long-distance moves, business moves, storage, and junk removal allow each franchisee to be more resistant to an ever changing economy.”
Franchisees seem to be responding well to that line of thought. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® currently has several candidates working toward franchise ownership. During the fourth quarter, the brand will be adding several units, with many more in line for the spring of 2021.
“We value our relationships with new candidates and our existing franchisees who continue to pursue expansion opportunities,” said Ackley.
As one of those multi-franchisees, Reps attests that the value of expansion is more than just a profitable investment; it’s about building opportunities for people in the community. With the proper resources, the right brand can bring jobs to the greater community and a career path for promising employees.
“Creating opportunities for good people; that’s why I do this,” said Reps. “We have people that show a will and want to forward their careers. We could only do that so much with the one location. We’ve had to grow because we've had people too talented to operate the existing jobs we had for them.”
As for the final cost of buying a franchise, weighing the options and value can be simple: consider the overall cost, resources that are involved and the fiscal opportunity the franchise can bring to the community. People considering buying into a franchise should think of these aspects before deciding to commit.
