Oh Mama Beer Brings Rock ‘n’ Roll Energy to Voodoo Brewery Pubs Nationwide
Oh Mama Beer isn’t your typical beer release. It’s a loud, proud collaboration between Voodoo Brewing Co. and rock icons Styx.

Oh Mama Beer isn’t your typical beer release. It’s a loud, proud collaboration between Voodoo Brewing Co. and rock icons Styx.
“The idea started when Styx reached out to our Voodoo team with a unique ask,” Chief Marketing Officer Tom Guzick said. “They wanted us to create a beer for them that captured the spirit of the band and the grit of Pittsburgh.” From there, the teams joined forces to craft both the lager and the design.
The label, designed by Voodoo’s own Tom Ness, draws on classic Styx imagery combined with Voodoo’s signature look. The design jumps off the shelf, and the beer itself has quickly become a fan favorite wherever it’s served.
“I pulled inspiration from some past band merchandise that had what you expected — skulls, guns, and rock and roll,” Ness said. “So I took some of that vibe and meshed it with the visual aesthetic I created for Voodoo's designs and threw a dash of Pittsburgh in there, too.”
Whenever Styx comes to town, Voodoo pubs nearby get in on the action, throwing events and running beer specials. In Virginia Beach, pub owner Alex Bergren gave away eight tickets to the Styx show, creating buzz in the community and giving loyal customers a memorable night. Down in Roswell, Georgia, owner Betsy Rouse took things up a notch with concert-night beer specials and a signed guitar giveaway. The winner, John Wilcher, has been a die-hard fan since before the Roswell pub even opened.
“John isn’t just a winner; he’s part of the soul of our pub. He’s been a Voodoo fan long before our doors even opened in Roswell, and he and his wife Diana have been unwavering in their support since day one,” Rouse said. “Their love for the brand, our team and the community is something really special. We couldn’t be more excited that John won the guitar — and in true Voodoo spirit, he’s letting us keep it displayed proudly in the bar for everyone to enjoy!”
Teaming up gave both Styx and Voodoo the chance to meet new audiences. Fans of the band discovered a new go-to brewery, and Voodoo regulars got a taste of rock history with their pints.
“Collaboration is all about a mixing of ideas and groups to create something new and different and hopefully expose people to different experiences,” Ness said. “I am sure there are tons of Styx fans who drank our beer and said ‘Who the hell is Voodoo and where even is Meadville?’ But that resulted in new connections for us as well as the band.”
With the tour still going strong, and upcoming events in cities like Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Cleveland, there’s more Oh Mama Beer to go around. The energy behind the beer, from the label to the lager itself, captures what happens when music and craft brewing collide in all the right ways.
“When I was creating the visual for the beer, I wanted something big, loud and badass,” Ness said. “I wanted that label and the beer to stand out when you saw it. Music is all about loud energy and I wanted to try to depict that. The label draws you in, but the beer keeps you coming back.”
