Buffalo Wings & Rings Looks to Wrangle Texas

The family-friendly restaurant brand plans for statewide expansion.

Buffalo Wings & Rings, widely known for its family-friendly take on a sports restaurant, is planning to grab the Lone Star State by the horns.

With 11 Texas locations currently in operation and more on the verge of opening in the coming months, the franchise is gearing up for a rapid expansion throughout the central-most region of the state. Philip Schram, chief development officer at Buffalo Wings & Rings, said Texas offers a lot of attractive markets for the right franchisees.

Central and Northern Texas are the next logical steps in brand development. Buffalo Wings & Rings has successful locations in the metro area surrounding the Texas Triangle—a region anchored by booming cities like Laredo, Corpus Christi and Brownsville— and the brand intends to target San Antonio and Austin as ideal markets to catapult growth throughout the state.

“There are about 70 cities in Texas that meet the criteria we look for—cities that have a population of 50,000 and above,” he said. “There are a lot of opportunities in Texas and we have been very successful in the state.”

With nearly one-third of the brand’s locations already in Texas, Schram said franchisees have experienced a lot of success in the state because of its demographics and, especially, the state’s economic stability. He also said Texans dine out more than any other state on average.

“The culture in the South is traditionally family-based,” Schram said. “Families enjoy dining out together, and that experience is what the Buffalo Wings & Rings brand is about.”

Texas is a state rich in culture, and Schram said the brand resonates with many different demographics, but maybe none more than the Hispanic population because of the shared appreciation for strong family values.

“What’s great about Texas is that it’s a wealthy state where a lot of people dine out and have strong family values. Buffalo Wings & Rings is ideal for residents looking for a high-quality meal in a respectable environment.”

Buffalo Wings & Rings provides franchisees with a sophisticated business model that has been proven to succeed not only in Texas, but across the country. Offering unparalleled training and a system that’s streamlined—from the menu design to the kitchen layout—new owners can feel confident in their investment.

Currently, more than 30 percent of Buffalo Wings & Rings franchisees are multi-unit owners. Schram said he expects to see that number increase to nearly 50 percent by 2016 as franchisees recognize the value behind providing a family-friendly alternative to traditional sports bars.

“We’ve found that it’s hard to fail in Texas. It’s really an attractive state for restaurant owners,” Schram said. “Residents in Texas like going out and enjoying a great meal in a restaurant that places importance on high-quality food in a respectable environment. Buffalo Wings & Rings even offers some of the family-sized options for dishes that fit the family culture and lifestyle of the state.”
