Franchisee Success: How Todd Fetter Became Successful with Buffalo Wings & Rings
Ohio native plans to expand throughout the “Golden Triangle.”

For Todd Fetter, being an entrepreneur isn’t a job or a career path, or even a dream. It’s a way of life, one that leads to unit after unit being added to his Buffalo Wings & Rings sprawl.
Raised in Waynesfield, Ohio, Fetter attended college for a few semesters before starting a family with his wife Audra in 1985. Fetter invested himself in small business ownership as he built a life for his expanding family. As their brood grew to five children, so did his ambition.
Fetter owned a manufacturing business before entering the e-coating and powdering industry. He quickly learned the ins and outs of expanding businesses when he grew the company into two locations with 150 employees. Looking for a new venture, Fetter sold his share of the business in 2008. Based on his family’s common interest in sports and wings, Fetter started looking for a wing joint, and came across Buffalo Wings & Rings.
“I liked that the corporate headquarters are in Cincinnati, which means they’re close for training and support,” Fetter said. “I went to several stores to eat and check things out, and found that everything was great.”
Making his first foray into the franchising industry, Fetter had a rock solid support system behind him. Not only did the franchise become a family affair (four of five children have roles in Fetter’s Buffalo Wings & Rings restaurants), but Fetter also found a second family within the network of BW&R franchisees.
“The support system is great. You can pick up a phone and call any of the Wings and Rings owners directly,” Fetter said. “Maybe they won’t handle the issue directly but they will help you find the answer, and if they miss the call they’ll return it. It’s very personal.”
Once Todd got 10 months of franchise ownership under his belt, he decided to open a second location. Just this July, Todd and his Mason location business partner John Gerbus purchased an existing BWR location in Lewis Center, Ohio, one of the fastest growing counties in the state.
The duo will continue to expand with Buffalo Wings & Rings in what Todd refers to as the “Golden Triangle”—the area including and between Dayton, Columbus and Cincinnati.
It’s not all dollars and cents to the Fetter fam, though. The brood regularly volunteer to house children through a group called Children’s Medical Missions, which brings children from underdeveloped countries to the US to get medical treatment.
Whether it’s in franchising or in goodwill, Todd Fetter has no shortage of hard work and dedication.
