Wings and Rings, the 85-plus unit club-level sports restaurant and bar concept, has officially launched a plan to accept Bitcoin for its $40,000 franchising fee starting in 2021. The brand has set a strategy in motion to become a disrupting leader in a changing industry, furthering its forward-thinking model to target more prospective franchisees.

“We’re excited to launch this new strategy, and we firmly believe it will showcase our brand to prospective franchisees that have an interest in an evolving world and technology,” said Thomas Flaherty, the brand’s chief development officer. “This is an exciting opportunity for us to showcase our company as a tech-savvy and tech-enabled brand, and we believe the forward-thinking attitude of Bitcoin-holding investors will help us propel our business to even further heights.”

While a Bitcoin-motivated strategy is unique, it is not entirely foreign to business development. The moving service College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving became the first recognized franchisor to launch plans to accept a form of cryptocurrency for a franchising fee, but Wings and Rings could still become the first brand to actively try it out.

The idea to accept Bitcoin as a franchising fee came to Flaherty before a multi-unit franchisee conference. It is the latest development for the brand, which has already been praised for its forward-thinking kitchen solutions, technology and new point-of-sale system.

This new plan is also another example of how Wings and Rings finds ways to encourage support for franchisees. In 2020, when the pandemic first started to take hold, the brand introduced a development incentive program to waive its $40,000 franchise fee and royalty fees for the first six months of operation. The incentive remained in effect through 2021, and will continue through 2022.

For prospective franchisees interested in the brand’s new G4 model, additional royalty reduction can be offered for incentive-qualified franchisees. The G4 model was introduced to further innovate the brand’s presence, placing an increased emphasis on off-site ordering and takeout options in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The brand’s innovation has been furthered through an updated kitchen display system to further promote the brand’s efficiencies.
