CNBC: Amazon Grabbed 4 Percent of All US Retail Sales in 2017

Amazon’s retail business was impressive this year but still has room for growth.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Amazon had an impressive year in 2017. But the dominance the company has in the e-commerce space is even more than many might have thought. According to a recent CNBC article and One Click Retail, the internet giant was responsible for 44 percent of all U.S. e-commerce sales in 2017, which is 4 percent of the country’s total retail sales figure.

"Every major trend we see across 2017 can be explained by the fact that more of Amazon's core demographic (millennials) are growing up: they're increasingly owning homes, raising children, and buying a TON of stuff to go with it," wrote One Click Retail CEO Spencer Millerberg.

Consumer electronics and home and kitchen topped the product groups for most sales in 2017, while the fastest-growing product categories this year included luxury beauty, pantry items, grocery and furniture.
