CNBC: Amazon Hints at One of Its Best-Kept Secrets: How Many Prime Members It Has

Amazon Prime has been poised for the past couple years to take over in many industries, from its streaming services to its interactive technology to its two-day shipping, many of which have further set industry standards across the board. But one thing the company has long done is keeping information about its number of Prime members close to the vest.

According to Amazon’s filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last week, the company said it generated $6.4 billion in revenue related to its retail subscription services. Robert Drbul, an analyst at Guggenheim Securities, estimated that shakes out to about 65 million Prime memberships. This estimation, however, needs room for give and take, given that Amazon offers a number of Prime membership options, such as month-to-month versus annual memberships and payments.
