There are now more than 7,000 breweries in the United States, according to a report in The Takeout.

Citing numbers provided by the Brewers Association, which is a trade group for small and independent breweries, the article noted that there are now 7,082 breweries in the U.S. and 2,000 more in development.

The article noted the advantages that smaller breweries have over their larger, more regionally-focused counterparts: “If a brewery’s plan is to stay small, serve just its town or county, maybe operate as a brewpub (with food) and sell most of its beer on-site, I’d argue there’s room for one of those in nearly every American town. At that scale, they’re like restaurants or coffee shops, really: They can survive just on the support of their small community.”
