Adweek: Dunkin’ Donuts Trots Out Branded Running Shoes in Honor of the Boston Marathon

The 2,000 pairs of limited-edition shoes sold out in minutes.

Dunkin' Donuts is the newest franchise to dabble in the apparel category. Adweek announced that the donut franchise partnered will fellow Boston-based Saucony in creating a limited-edition line of running shoes in preparation for the upcoming Boston Marathon on April 16.

“We’ve been keeping America running on Dunkin’ for decades, and we’re thrilled to partner with Saucony to literally keep Bostonians running this marathon season,” said Justin Unger, director of strategic partnerships at Dunkin’ Brands.

With only 2,000 pairs available, the shoes sold out almost instantly. Although running shoes might seem like an interesting apparel choice for the coffee brand, Dunkin' Donuts noted that coffee was the number one food or beverage mentioned by runners, while donuts were number 6 according to exercise-tracking app Starva.
