Adweek: Yes, Twitter Is Rolling Out 280-Character Tweets to Nearly All Users

The change will impact all users except for those using Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.

The days of tweets limited to 140 characters are over. According to a recent article in Adweek, Twitter has decided to give most users access to 280 characters on their platform. The change will impact all users except for those using Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.

“We are making this change after listening and observing a problem our global community was having—it wasn’t easy enough to tweet—studying data to understand how we could improve, trying it out and listening to your feedback,” said Aliza Rosen of Twitter.

According to the article, the hype initially surrounding the new character count died down quickly and people are returning to their routine of using short messages on the platform. In tests, the company discovered that only about five percent of users exceeded 140 characters.
