Papa Murphy's franchisee Marshall James, didn't exactly get the support he anticipated from his own mother when he told her he was working with the take-and-bake pizza chain: "She said, 'Y'all don't cook it and y'all don't deliver? Have y'all lost your minds?'"

As the operating partner for Twickenham Holdings, James has helped expand the brand exponentially in the four years they've worked alongside Papa Murphy's in Alabama.

Billy Bullock, the Daphne franchisee, exemplifies the American dream approach, more so. He was drawn to the streamlined approach.

"You wouldn't believe the reactions we'd get" during that first year, he said. After helping new customers order their fresh pies, the concept was still foreign to them. "And then they'd go, 'But this is cold,'" he said. Now, he's successfully developing more locations in the area.

Papa Murphy's Chief Development Officer & Senior Vice President of Technology Jayson Tipp said almost all of the brand's vegetables arrive in whole form and are chopped in-store. The dough is mixed on-site. They use refrigerated meats, rather than frozen.

"It is totally fair to say we're committed to growth," said Tipp. "We're really proud of the concept."

And, when they say they're growing in "Mobile," they mean it. They think the region, from Mobile to Pensacola, could support 30 or 35 stores.
