Bojangles Closing Underperforming Restaurants, Refranchising Others

The chicken chain made the announcement when it released its second fiscal quarter numbers.

Bojangles said it would close approximately 10 underperforming locations during its third fiscal quarter this year, according to their second fiscal quarter report.

The chicken fast food chain, which is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, will also refranchise select company-operated restaurants as part of its other efforts to improve sales. Approximately 30 company-operated restaurants in Tennessee and Georgia will be refranchised to one of the company’s largest franchisees, according to the report.

“Our continued focus on well-run restaurants is best reflected in the progress we are making on staffing and training, improving speed, accuracy and quality, and promoting signature menu items with value messaging,” Bojangles interim president and CEO Randy Kibler said in the report. “We are further encouraged that system-wide comparable restaurant sales in the second fiscal quarter of 2018 improved sequentially compared to the first fiscal quarter of 2018 and that our core breakfast daypart strengthened. Our hard work over the past several months is clearly beginning to resonate with customers.”
