Northern Nevada is a region experiencing a surge in craft beer popularity and business growth. Edwards sees opportunity in this burgeoning market, and aims to open five Brass Tap units to cater to the evolving tastes of the area — including high-end tourist destination Lake Tahoe.“The goal is to tap into the market's potential, leveraging the popularity of craft beer and the unique offerings of The Brass Tap,” Brian said. “I’m excited about the possibility of growing within this vibrant community and believe that the concept will be well-received.”PROFILE QUESTIONS1851: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Edwards:&nbsp;I began my career as a physical therapist, having walked into a training room at UNLV back in 1992. Over the years, I've achieved my doctorate in physical therapy and have been a licensed physical therapist for 25 years. I worked internationally as a physical therapist in Belfast, Northern Ireland and have worked throughout the United States as a physical therapist totaling 16 states including Hawaii. My career has been both financially and personally rewarding. However, after almost 30 years in the medical field, I felt it was time for a change, to reinvent myself.I’ve always been interested in owning a local sports bar, a dream that goes back to my college days. So, I began exploring franchising as a way to make this dream a reality.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Edwards: I initially explored a franchise opportunity in Las Vegas, but found it lacking in support; it seemed like they just wanted to put their name on my bar and take a percentage of the profits without offering any real assistance. This experience left a sour taste in my mouth. However, once I connected with The Brass Tap, that perception changed. They were welcoming, supportive, and willing to guide me through the process.&nbsp;Now, as a franchisee, I understand the importance of choosing a brand that offers not just a name, but real support and guidance. It's not just about the financial aspect — it's also about the relationship and the level of commitment the franchisor is willing to provide.1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Edwards:&nbsp;I picked The Brass Tap because it aligned with what I was looking for in terms of support and the type of business I wanted to run. What are your plans for growth?Edwards:&nbsp;The aim is to establish multiple Brass Tap units in Northern Nevada. I see a significant opportunity in the craft beer market here, especially with the region's growing population and economic development. I’m looking to expand to about five locations, including Carson City and possibly Lake Tahoe.&nbsp;The goal is to tap into the market's potential, leveraging the popularity of craft beer and the unique offerings of The Brass Tap. I’m excited about the possibility of growing within this vibrant community and believe that the concept will be well-received.1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Edwards:&nbsp;The most important aspect of my story is the journey of transformation and the willingness to embrace new challenges. After a long career in healthcare, stepping into the world of franchising and hospitality represents a significant change. It's about taking that leap of faith and being open to new opportunities.&nbsp;1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?Edwards:&nbsp;For those considering franchising, my advice is to thoroughly research and understand the brand you're getting into. Make sure you're aligning with a franchisor that offers support and shares your vision. Be prepared for challenges, especially unexpected ones like I faced with the pandemic and supply chain issues. It's important to be passionate about your venture and willing to learn. Franchising is not just about running a business — it's also about building relationships and being part of a larger network that supports your growth.Just remember that&nbsp;you can't learn to drive a parked car.
