Brooke Randall moved from the Kansas City area to Fayetteville, Georgia, in July 2026. Along with settling into a new community, she was interested in exploring business ownership.
Before the move, Randall had been painting and making changes to her home. She had always enjoyed transforming spaces and began to wonder whether she could turn that interest into a business. With experience in customer service, she enlisted the help of a career coach to explore franchising.
That search led her to Fresh Coat* Painters. Randall was impressed by the company's approach to customer service and the support it offered new franchisees. She saw an opportunity to combine her personal interests with her professional experience while establishing a business serving Fayetteville and the surrounding south metro Atlanta communities.
Randall soft-launched her business in August and officially opened Oct. 1. As she navigates the early stages of franchise ownership, she's discovering just how much there is to learn about running a business.
1851 Franchise spoke with Randall about her decision to become a franchisee, the challenges she's encountered and what she hopes to accomplish in her new community. Here’s what she had to say:
1851 Franchise: Tell us your story in one sentence.
Brooke Randall: I am a forever learner and explorer.
1851: What was happening in your life that made you realize it was time to make a change?
Randall: I recently relocated to the Fayetteville, Georgia, area from the Kansas City metro area in July for another career opportunity, and I was looking at how to get integrated into the community. Personally, I love to curate spaces because I believe your surroundings help tell the story of who you are and regulate how you feel. As I was preparing for my move, I was doing a lot of painting and refreshing my space, and I realized how just a touch of paint can completely transform a home without needing to buy everything new. I wanted to connect a passion with profit, draw on my background in customer service and see if I could challenge myself to build a business that provides true value to people.
1851: Why did you choose this franchise over every other opportunity?
Randall: Fresh Coat Painters has very good customer service, which was critical to me because how they treated me was a direct reflection of how owners are expected to treat their clients. Working with a career coach who helps match backgrounds with franchise opportunities, Fresh Coat came up as a natural fit. Their team made the onboarding process easy, clear and structured, making it feel like a safe and supportive entry into business ownership.
1851: What is it really like owning a Fresh Coat Painters franchise?
Randall: It has been beautifully overwhelming. It is a great journey, but it is definitely like drinking out of a fire hose with a lot of learning required very quickly. Fortunately, there is a strong community of fellow owners and corporate support resources to help you through it, even though the ultimate responsibility of securing clients falls on you as the owner.
1851: How has owning this franchise changed your life?
Randall: It has made me think much more strategically about how business works and the direct impact a business can have on employees, the local community, and myself as an owner. The learning and professional development through the franchise process have been really insightful.
1851: If your best friend had enough money to buy this franchise tomorrow, what would you tell them?
Randall: Go for it! My experience thus far has been really good. There are plenty of painters out there, but Fresh Coat prides itself on painting done right, and the difference in quality and attention to detail is something clients appreciate for years to come.
1851: What's the one thing you wish someone had told you before you bought this franchise?
Randall: Be ready to hit the ground running. It is not a slow walk, and from the moment you sign, you need to be focused on how you are going to get your first client.
