Chicago Tribune: With New Franchise Deal, Wisconsin-Based Cousins Subs Will Open 40 Locations In Chicago Area, Three This Year

The sub restaurant was started in 1972 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Cousins Submarines, more commonly referred to as Cousins Subs, has signed a franchise deal to come to Chicago, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

The sub chain will start off with three new Chicago locations by the end of 2018, and the plan is to have a total of 40 Chicago-area franchise locations by the end of 2025 and expand further in the Midwest, according to the Chicago Tribune report.

The sub sandwich chain currently has locations throughout its native Wisconsin and in Arizona.

“We know it’s a fiercely competitive landscape,” Cousins Subs CEO Christine Specht told the Chicago Tribune. “We’re not going to try to be so-and-so. We’re going to be like Cousins Subs.”

The company is currently in the process of revamping the look of many of its locations. In July 2018, the Cousins Subs in West Allis, Wisconsin was the 36th restaurant to have the rebranded look.

“As we remodel, relocate and open new units, we will continue to evolve our design package to best fit the demands of our guests in the spaces we call home,” Cousins Subs vice president of marketing Justin McCoy said in a press release that announced the new look for the West Allis location. “Providing our guests with a contemporary and inviting environment is always at the forefront of any design or buildout consideration. These new enhancements deliver on that premise by digitally communicating the brand’s story to our guests.”
