CNN Money: Why McDonald’s Is Flipping Its Arches for a Day

The fast-food chain publicly shares its views on gender equality on International Women’s Day.

McDonald’s has decided to celebrate International Women’s Day by making a chance to their famous arches. According to a recent CNN Money article, the brand will be turning its logo upside down for the holiday across the brand’s digital channels, physically flipped at one location in California along with many locations across the US celebrating with employees wearing hats and shirts to mark the occasion.

"For the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches," said McDonald's Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis. She went on to say the brand will be flipping its logo "in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere."

With the campaign, McDonald’s reports that 6 out of every 10 managers at their restaurants are women and says the brand has a history of supporting women. The fast-food chain certainly isn’t the first brand to use the International Women’s Day as a way to share its views on gender equality, and other brands have started to jump on board after seeing the traction campaigns like this one get with consumers.
