Comfort Keepers®, the in-home senior care brand, is entering a new era of growth and transformation thanks to its acquisition by The Halifax Group in late 2023. The private equity firm’s backing has reinvigorated the brand’s focus on franchising and operational support, a move that longtime franchisees say is a major improvement from its time under Sodexo ownership.

“[The acquisition] is probably the single best thing that's happened in this company since I've been an owner,” Nick Bryan, who owns 14 Comfort Keepers locations, told Franchise Times. “The focus and the investment in the business is just an order of magnitude better than it was under Sodexo. I think we were a forgotten sideshow at Sodexo.”

Since the deal, the newly formed parent company, Elevate Care International (ECI), has taken strategic steps to streamline and strengthen its portfolio. That includes selling off operations in France and Brazil, refranchising 30+ locations in the U.K., and buying back master rights in Canada. In the U.S., Comfort Keepers has been working to refranchise 105 corporate territories — most of which have been sold to current franchisees or internal team members — while also accelerating franchise development nationwide.

CEO Natalie Black, who now leads both Comfort Keepers and Elevate Care International, says the brand has revamped its leadership team, bolstered franchise support and learning programs, and rolled out technology upgrades including a gamified training platform called ElevateU and a new operating system called Viv. The goal: help franchisees build stronger teams and more efficient businesses.

The performance of mature Comfort Keepers locations speaks to the brand’s potential. In fiscal year 2024, franchisees open seven years or more averaged $1.36 million in sales.

Black and franchisees like Bryan say Comfort Keepers has a meaningful edge with its mission-driven focus on “elevating the human spirit.” That culture of joy and purpose, paired with serious investments in training and technology, could position the brand for significant growth in a highly competitive senior care industry.
