QSR Magazine: Chipotle Cutting Chorizo From the Menu

The fast-casual chain decides to cut chorizo from its menu after a different new product launch.

As Chipotle launches a new addition to its menu, a different menu item bites the dust. According to a recent QSR Magazine article, the fast-casual chain plans to take chorizo off the menu after less than one year. While this may seem like a surprising move, chorizo is only accounting for 3 percent of the brand's protein sales.

"When we decided to move forward with the national rollout of queso, we opted to replace chorizo on the line with queso, so chorizo is going away," said Chris Arnold, spokesman for Chipotle. "While we really liked the chorizo [and many customers did too], the efficiency of our model has always been rooted in part, in doing just a few things so we can do them really well."

Chipotle launched queso nationwide on September 12 after a two-month test in Southern California, Colorado and eventually New York.  So far, reviews are mixed judging from comments on social media.
