New York Times: Trump and Obama Hold Cordial 90-Minute Meeting in Oval Office

President Obama and president elect Donald J. Trump put aside their differences and publicly held a meeting in the Oval Office earlier today. The New York Times reports that “it was an ordinary show of cordiality”, considering how heated this election has been and how opposed Obama was to Trump’s candidacy.

“I want to emphasize to you, Mr. President-elect, that we now are going to want to do everything we can to help you succeed because if you succeed, then the country succeeds,” Mr. Obama told Mr. Trump as the two sat side-by-side after the roughly 90-minute meeting. The president called the session “excellent” and wide-ranging.

“We discussed a lot of different situations, some wonderful and some difficulties. I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future, including counsel,” Mr. Trump said.

The Atlantic: What Lies Ahead for the Supreme Court in a Trump Administration?

Possibly the most immediate effect of Trump’s presidency, according the The Atlantic, is the guarantee of a conservative Supreme Court which will immediately shape decisions. It also means that President Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, for the open seat won’t be confirmed by the Senate.

Today, The Atlantic attempts to answer some of the biggest questions about the future of the Supreme Court, like who will take the open seat, who will be the next justice, and what other justices think of Trump.

“Trump’s unprecedented rise to power, as well as his disregard for longstanding American political norms, raises serious questions about the federal judiciary’s future under his watch,” writes The Atlantic.

“Market events before, during, and after the 2016 presidential election,” writes Yahoo Finance, “provided a textbook example of why time in the market is more important than timing the market.”

Stock markets yoyo’d on Tuesday night as the polls came in. Initially, markets slid 800 points around midnight eastern. By Wednesday afternoon, stocks had already recovered all of the losses and more.

CNN: Protesters Target Trump Buildings in Massive Street Rallies

Thousands of people protested Tuesday night’s election results yesterday evening, gathering in at least 25 American cities. After one of the most divisive elections in recent history, many U.S. citizens are shocked by Trump’s presidency.

“While most protesters were peaceful, dozens were arrested,” reports CNN. “At least three officers were wounded. And about 40 fires were set in one California city.”
