Press-Enterprise: Dairy Queen® Eyes Development Across Southern California

The leading franchise brand expects to open 14 new locations in the Riverside area within the next decade.

Inland ice cream lovers have a reason to rejoice: iconic frozen treat brand Dairy Queen*® is planning expansion in the area. The company sees potential for 14 new locations in the Riverside area over the next five to 10 years.

Dairy Queen’s growth strategy is to put restaurants where we have a lot of consumers that want Dairy Queen and where we don’t have a lot of stores. Riverside is a good example of that,” said Mike Mettler, director of national franchise sales to the Press-Enterprise. “There are a lot of very strong trade areas, say like Menifee, where there are a lot of consumers but there’s not a Dairy Queen.”

The brand plans to expand with its fast casual concept DQ Grill & Chill®, which offers a full menu. Dairy Queen opened 84 new locations in 2015 and this year opened a Riverside County location in Cathedral City.
