Houston Chronicle: K9 Resorts Makes Plans to Serve Houston Hounds

Luxury dog accommodation chain sets sights on Houston expansion.

Due to a recent private-equity investment in 2016, a luxury hotel chain that is just for dogs is seeking to make its mark in Houston relatively soon. K9 Resorts, Daycare and Luxury Hotels was founded by Steven and Jason Parker while they were operating a dog-sitting business.

According to the Houston Chronicle, each hotel and resort has about 7,000 square feet of indoor space accompanied by 4,000 square feet of outdoor space. The rooms in the hotel are tuned to Animal planet and the daycare, swimming pools and other amenities are to give the hotel a feeling similar to home.

Co-Founder and Co-CEO of K9 Resorts, Jason Parker said that in addition to the population and income of Houston, the city is an ideal place for the company because it scores well with the hotel's "pet index," which measures how much people spend on their pets. "All these numbers were either equivalent or higher than what we found in New Jersey," said Parker.

Parker said the company has received interest from Houston and has begun to seek potential franchisees and possible locations for the hotel to go into.
