For high school best friends Tim Bouziane and Michael Constantino, fitness has always been a shared passion. After pursuing separate but complementary careers in the industry — Bouziane in sales and operations, and Constantino in training and coaching — the duo decided it was time to join forces and build a business together. They found that opportunity with Rumble, a boutique fitness concept that combines boxing-inspired circuits with strength training. Drawn in by the brand's bold marketing, its unique combination of boxing and strength training, and the comprehensive support of a franchise system, they knew the boutique studio concept was the perfect fit. Today, they are the proud, highly active owners of a successful Rumble location in Lithia, Florida. Having recently celebrated their third anniversary, the hands-on partners have cultivated an incredibly dedicated community of over 300 active members and are currently eyeing future expansion in the Sarasota market.

Bouziane and Constantino sat down with 1851 Franchise to discuss building a business together after years in the fitness industry and how they’ve grown a strong community around their Rumble studio. Here’s what they had to say:

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What do you want us to know?

Tim Bouziane: Mike and I have been best friends since high school in Sarasota, Florida. We are both very passionate about athletics, sports, fitness, and community. After high school, we went our separate ways a little bit, but we both stayed involved in the fitness industry. However, our careers were on opposite ends. My decade-plus of experience has always been working front of house with sales and operations, while Mike has climbed up in his ranks as a master trainer and has coached thousands of group fitness classes himself.

1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Bouziane: We got to a spot in our careers where we were looking for another challenge to take on. I was actually working with a sister brand, YogaSix, as a general manager helping an owner open up a few locations, and that's where we got the email about the former parent company acquiring Rumble. We know how to operate gyms both big and small, but for us, it was the lift of the branding and having the support from corporate if and when needed. We really liked not having to start from scratch and do everything ourselves, like building a website, getting a logo, and securing contracts from lawyers.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Michael Constantino: Both of our parents were business owners or franchisees, so we were able to see what the day-to-day looked like, and it was ingrained in us. We had talked about opening a business for over 10 years, and we didn't necessarily plan on a franchise, but we ended up there after finding the opportunity with Rumble.

Bouziane: The one perception that I had was that there potentially could be a route to be more of an absentee owner. What we find is that most successful studios have owners that are heavily involved and active within their businesses. It seems that most owners who struggle came into it with the mindset that they were going to have this as a side hobby of sorts, and that's just not going to work out that way.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Constantino: For me, it was the branding and marketing off the rip, the colors and boldness of it. The actual product itself, mixing boxing with strength training, really hits a lot of personal buttons for both of us. Another thing on top of that is that it's a boutique studio instead of a big box, crazy huge gym.

Bouziane: We truly do have all walks of life coming in. Historically, you would find group fitness leaning 80 to 90% towards ladies, but with Rumble, we have a pretty good mix of both men and women. We also have younger teenagers that are able to make it in, as well as people who are 60 and 70-plus years old who enjoy class as well. One thing we’re especially proud of is creating an environment where first timers feel just as welcome as experienced members.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?

Bouziane: We just celebrated our third anniversary about a month ago. We're going to continue to get these roots as deep as possible in the first studio, but we do have the ability and the licenses to open up a few more. We are definitely looking to open at least another one hopefully within the next year. We have the ability to open up anywhere south of us, so the Sarasota area is really something that we're eyeing.

1851: Is there anything else about your story you want us to know?

Bouziane: It's exciting that we were able to open our first business not too far from our home city, and we definitely look forward to getting back and contributing to that community over there as well. We truly do have an awesome community at our Rumble FishHawk location. We just surpassed over 300 active members, and we have multiple people who have taken over 1,000 classes with us over the first three years, which is pretty impressive. Mike and I may be the "franchise owners," but we are deeply involved. Mike is in there coaching classes, and I'm still in the front of house, making the calls and doing whatever we can to support our team and our general manager.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?

Constantino: Just not expecting it to be a side gig. You can't go in there, buy a franchise, and then expect it to run itself. Our biggest piece of advice is making sure you know the market you're going to do it in, and be ready to be involved in it throughout its entirety, not just at the beginning.
