And my grandfather just passed away a couple years ago as well. So, there was about a three-year period between the two and my mom was taking care of them. I helped — but I saw the struggle and the balance that she really struggled with in taking care of them,” Arnold said. “I was doing some health care consulting. It was inconsistent. A lot of changes in health care. So, I just decided to take a look at the franchise opportunity. And it really struck that chord for me: I know this. I've done this. I've lived it. I've breathed it. I've seen it in my family.”<h2>Creating a Family Legacy</h2>While concepts like efficiency, control, service and aligned values helped draw Arnold into the franchisee fold, it was the idea of working with her children to create a shared franchising legacy that could be passed down which cemented the career pivot.Possessing a business background and experience as a registered nurse, Arnold had skills that transferred well to the idea of running a&nbsp;<a href="https://1851franchise.com/seniorshelpingseniors/info">Seniors Helping Seniors®</a> franchise.&nbsp;Building a strong team can be difficult. But Arnold is able to capitalize on a built-in support system as she forges ahead in her new business. One of her six children is a CNA with another currently going to school to become a nurse.“I’m the first in my family to go to college, get a degree and do a lot of things. But I've been advising people on how to run things more efficiently and effectively. So, I have the knowledge. But I wanted to take control of a business of my own — something I was dedicated to — and take control of my career, eventually passing it on to a family member,” Arnold said. “I think it fits because two of my six kids are in the medical field and really into it the way I am. I think this would be a great business for them to support.”<h2>Building the Family Business</h2>Like many pondering the idea of franchising, Arnold had questions about how to get started. But drawing upon her family history to select a franchise opportunity with aligned values proved attractive. And the idea of creating a family legacy that can be shared with her children is the type of franchising benefit that can be hard to quantify in terms of dollars and cents.“I also have a son in finance — so the accounting and financial side could fit in — and another child who's into operations. So, it could really become a fully family-run business,” Arnold said. ”Initially, I didn’t really know how financing worked. But I learned a lot in the process, including that you could finance through a 401(k). I had no idea about that.
