Restaurant News: Famous Dave's Kicks Off Second Annual All-Star BBQ Series in May
In honor of its 30th anniversary (and National BBQ Month), the barbecue franchise is partnering with the World Food Championships to find and celebrate America's best pitmasters in a 15-stop national tour.
Famous Dave’s of America is launching its second annual All-Star BBQ Series in partnership with World Food Championships to celebrate National BBQ Month, Restaurant News reported. The series, which begins on May 18th in Union Gap, Washington, will make 15 stops across the country, identifying top local pitmasters who will then compete in a national competition. Participants will compete in categories such as chicken, ribs, and a wild card entry, with the chance to win cash prizes and a golden ticket to the World Food Championships in Indianapolis.
According to Dave Anderson, founder of Famous Dave's, barbecue competitions like these were instrumental in building his brand. "Now as we celebrate our 30 year anniversary," Anderson said, "we're excited to sponsor local events that will pave the way for and elevate the talents of local pitmasters across the country."
Al Hank, chief operating officer of BBQ Holdings (Famous Dave’s parent company), concurred that these competitions are about igniting the passion for great barbecue across the country. "We're proud to be part of an event that creates so much team spirit and competitive camaraderie while lifting up the next generation of award-winning pitmasters," he said.
The events are free and open to the public, offering attendees the opportunity to taste and vote for barbecue entries, enjoy free samples and even collect commemorative merchandise. Local celebrities and Famous Dave's franchise owners will serve as judges, with several celebrity barbecue champions also participating.
"There's nothing more fun than an all-American barbecue competition to celebrate the Best Pork Ribs, Best Chicken, and my favorite, the 'Wild Card' category," Anderson said. "What can be better than family and friends getting together with the best barbecue in town, cold beers and rockin' music on a summer weekend?"
