Fast Casual: April Restaurant Sales Best in Nearly 3 Years

While same-store sales jumped, same-store traffic fell.

April proved to be a strong month for the restaurant industry. According to data from TDn2K cited by Fast Casual, same-store sales jumped 1.5 percent last month. That’s an improvement over 0.7 in March, and it marks the best month for the restaurant industry since September of 2015. However, despite that positive news, the restaurant industry is also facing a lot of challenges. In April, restaurants also experienced a drop in same-store traffic.

In a release quoted by Fast Casual, TDn2K Vice President of Insights and Knowledge Victor Fernandez said, “We are seeing an uptick in restaurant revenue beginning with the fourth quarter of last year. Stronger economic conditions and high consumer confidence are certainly factors. However, this performance has to be considered against last year’s soft sales. A longer view suggests there are still significant challenges for the industry.”
