Fast Casual: Restaurant sales flat, but traffic still vanishing along with employees

Flat or positive same-store growth and year-to-date growth is seen as a positive.

A recent Fast Casual article detailed a TDn2K report that outlined the past three months of chain store sales data. The report stated that chain store comp sales grew 0.8 percent, while comp traffic dipped to 2.9 percent in May. TDn2K noted that this drop off isn't a concern because chain stores have seen flat or positive same-store growth for three months straight, which is a good sign.

In addition, guest count continues to decrease, but those who do visit are spending more, therefore pushing sales into the positives.

The report went on to detail the positive sales seen in the Western portion of the U.S. while New England has seen a 2.4 percent decline in sales and 5.1 percent decline in traffic. It also noted the turnover is the highest it's been in decades for both hourly and management-level staff.
