Following the example of e-commerce sites like Amazon and Alibaba, online food delivery platform Deliveroo has ventured into the realm of brick-and-mortar. 

<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/11/deliveroo-is-opening-its-first-restaurant-in-hong-kong.html?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=food-delivery-startup-deliveroo-opens-brick-and-mortar-store-in-hong-kong-2708664" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" style="text-decoration-line:none" target="_blank">According to CNBC</a>, the startup that was recently valued at $2 billion has launched the Deliveroo Food Market, a storefront that is home to five restaurant groups that collectively offer 15 concepts for consumers to choose from. The Food Market&rsquo;s kitchen will also service online orders as well.

&quot;We find there is an opportunity to bring our online model offline to our customers,&quot; Deliveroo GM Brian Lo told CNBC. &quot;Hong Kong is one of the most expensive rental prices, so the pressure on restaurant operators is very high and this model works very well for them.&quot;

As Deliveroo&nbsp;becomes the first online food delivery concept to turn to brick-and-mortar to supplement its services, competing platforms will surely be monitoring Deliveroo&rsquo;s success to assess the value of following its lead. The article noted the startup intends to add a second Food Market location in Singapore next year with further plans for a global rollout if the model is successful.
