Franchisee Rob Ricco Takes a Big Step with Footprints Floors

The flooring-industry veteran relocated from Staten Island, New York to Durham, North Carolina to pursue a career with Footprints Floors and a new life for his family.

For Footprints Floors franchisee Rob Ricco, a deep knowledge of flooring solutions and a penchant for entrepreneurship run in the family. Born and raised in Staten Island, New York City, Ricco worked alongside his father in the family flooring business for much of his life. “My father grew up in the ‘70s and ‘80s, doing commercial carpet and tile,” said Ricco. “I worked for him for a long time, doing laminate floors and hardwood installation as well.”

Always a go-getter, Ricco also worked full-time as a supervisor for electric utility company Con Edison. “When I was working in construction, I always had a side-hustle in flooring,” said Ricco,  but after many years of hard work and long hours, Ricco wanted a business of his own. 

Along the way, Ricco also met his wife Sara—a native of Syracuse, New York—and they had two children, Amelia and Robert Jr. While they loved their life in the city, the pair was hoping to relocate to North Carolina with their young children to be closer to some of Sara’s family. 

Ricco saw this as an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone—to relocate to sunny North Carolina and pursue a business opportunity of his own through franchising. He researched over 50 franchises and eventually came across Footprints Floors. With 15 years of professional experience in flooring and construction under his belt, Ricco thought Footprints Floors was a great match for his expertise. Ricco’s wife Sara is also working as a part-owner in the business, and together outside of work they’re both very active in their children's lives. “As we get more settled in, we want to get more involved in the community with our kids,” said Ricco.

Many of the communities that Ricco will serve lack professional flooring companies, and he believes the Footprints Floors will fill that important gap.
