The Smoothie King empire is expanding throughout the Lone Star state with a strong presence in Fort Worth.

With Texas being the brand's largest market, two stores have been opening each month. Many of the new locations are throughout Tarrant County and North Texas.

Steve Shields, franchise development manager, has been with the company for 13 years and co-owns four Smoothie Kings in Louisiana. In an interview with Fort Worth Business, he said new locations recently have opened or are being developed in Fort Worth, Watauga, Saginaw, Lake Worth, Arlington and the Mid-Cities.

“We have a lot of development headed your way. We’re really aggressive in that market. Almost all of the expansion is by existing franchises,” said Steve Shields, senior business development manager at Smoothie King.

Multi-unit franchisee Steele Pearce is excited about growing with the brand. Earlier this summer, Pearce opened his third store located in North Richland Hills. This fall, Pearce will open the first Smoothie King location in Waco across from Baylor University.

Another franchisee, Tom Breslin, is putting the final touches on his third Fort Worth location, which is set to open in August.

“People are becoming more fit and active and aware of what they’re eating,” Breslin said. “Smoothie King, I think, stands out from the competition because of its healthy food aspect. That’s what attracted me to the brand.”
