Brick-and-mortar retailers like Walgreens and Kroger are using the technology to stay competitive with the likes of Amazon.

In an effort better understand their customers and in turn, boost sales, retailers like Walgreens, Kroger, Guess and Ralph Lauren have recently begun implementing facial recognition technology in their brick-and-mortar stores.
The emerging trend was discussed in a recent Fox Business segment, which explains that retailers are harnessing the technology to compete with Amazon by learning patterns to predict how a customer may behave and ultimately keep them shopping longer. The software can detect age, gender and even mood, the video explains.
While the technology is still in its preliminary usage stage, it’s reasonable to expect more brick-and-mortar businesses, including franchise brands, to adopt the trend to stay relevant in the increasingly competitive and ever-changing retail space.
