Franchise Times' annual ranking of the largest U.S.-based franchise systems by systemwide sales encompasses the biggest brands in franchising along with promising young concepts in growth mode. The Franchise Times Top 400 is an annual ranking of the 400 largest franchise systems in the United States by global systemwide sales, based on the previous year’s performance.

Great Clips was founded in 1982 and started franchising in 1983. Now, the brand has more than 4,400 locations throughout the United States and Canada. Usually located in strip malls, Great Clips hair salons are open evenings and weekends and do not require appointments. No hair care experience is required for franchisees, who operate five to six units after five years on average. The initial franchise fee is $20,000 with a 6% royalty fee.
