After over 20 years in healthcare, Juan Crespin brings his passion and experience to his new Griswold franchise in Laguna Hills, CA. Inspired by his own caregiving journey with family members, he’s dedicated to providing clients with the same level of compassion and respect he sought for his loved ones. With the goal of making high-quality care accessible and a supportive, local network of caregivers, Crespin is committed to helping families keep their loved ones at home, comfortably and safely.

1851 spoke with Crespin to learn more about his story, journey to Griswold and plans for the future.

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Juan Crespin: I’ve been in the healthcare field for over 20 years, starting as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and working my way up to Executive Administrator. Along the way, I’ve earned a Residential Care For the Elderly (RCFE) License in California, as well as a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree. What led me to pursue a franchise was my personal experience with caregiving. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my sisters, trying to find the right caregiver for our parents. We wanted someone who would care for them with the same love and respect that our parents had shown us. It was important to find a caregiver who understood our family dynamics and could maintain our parents’ dignity. Franchising allows me to focus on what truly matters: providing excellent care for clients, working closely with families, and ensuring that our clients can stay comfortably in their homes. This personal connection to caregiving drives my passion for this business every day.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Juan Crespin: Initially, I didn’t see the need for it. I knew how to get a business off the ground and understood the typical state laws required. However, as I delved deeper into what we would receive from a franchisor, it solidified my decision. Griswold has been nothing but great to me, consistently demonstrating why I made the right choice. Franchising offers numerous benefits that can significantly enhance the success of a business. Firstly, it provides a proven business model, which reduces the risks associated with starting a new venture. The franchisor’s established brand and reputation can attract customers more easily than an unknown startup.

Additionally, franchisors offer comprehensive training and support, ensuring that franchisees are well-prepared to run their businesses effectively. This includes everything from initial training programs to ongoing assistance with marketing, operations, and management.

Another key advantage is the network of fellow franchisees. This community can be an invaluable resource for sharing best practices, troubleshooting challenges, and providing mutual support. The collective knowledge and experience within the franchise network can help individual franchisees navigate the complexities of business ownership more successfully.

Moreover, franchisors often have strong relationships with suppliers, which can lead to cost savings and better terms for franchisees. This can improve profitability and streamline operations. In summary, franchising with Griswold has not only provided me with a solid foundation and continuous support but also connected me to a network of like-minded entrepreneurs. These benefits have reinforced our confidence in our decision and contributed to our ongoing success.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Juan Crespin: The Jean Griswold backstory and how she started the Jean Griswold Foundation so others could pursue their dreams is what made the final decision for me. As a previous caregiver I know what drive and passion is needed for being a caregiver. Griswold operates with agility while still maintaining a family run organization. The world needs more caregivers and those to advance in their career. The Jean Griswold foundation assures that her amazing legacy lives on while promoting another option to families and clients to be able to help them remain in their home when possible.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?

Juan Crespin: I want to be the provider and employer of choice and be very successful in everything I do. I plan on speaking and networking with everyone and providing a level of care for all people. My philosophy is that there is no problem too big for me to handle and I want to help anyone I possibly can. My hopes for the business are large, but attainable. I want to provide top notch care in Orange County and create a model business for my community. I love everything about Orange County and want to give back to my community.

1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?

Juan Crespin: My bachelors and masters degree was focused in Gerontology. I love working with our elderly population and my years in health care can show that. I have sat down with families grieving families five days a week in a hospice environment, while also on the Medical Surge floor at a large hospital. Caring for people is what drives me, and gets me up every morning.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?

Juan Crespin: For anyone considering entering the home care franchise business, my advice is to thoroughly research and choose a brand that aligns with your core values and vision for growth. With many franchises available, it’s crucial to identify one that offers robust support and is ready to lend a helping hand when needed. Griswold has been exceptional in supporting me from the very beginning, and I am confident they will continue to be there for me in the future.
