The thing about recruiting and hiring is that very few restaurant hiring managers (or managers, in general) are good interviewers right out of the gate. Conducting an interview is also a task that ranks relatively low on the list of things most enjoyed by managers and recruiters.

But being able to identify the right talent is extremely crucial to success, which makes it important for us to really improve on this skill. So in today's show, I share Part 1 of a 3-part series, with the first 4 of 11 tips to help you conduct interviews more confidently and effectively.

First, gather your recruiting and hiring documents. As restaurant hiring managers, our candidates expect professionalism. At all costs, avoid walking into an interview completely unprepared. Give them a clear idea of what to expect and be ready to answer any questions they may have.

Another thing that'll help when conducting an interview is to queue your questions. While It's okay to prepare some general questions, you should also have questions that are specific to the job. Just make sure that they're consistent within each position.

When recruiting and hiring, you also need to dial in your mindset and expectations. Show up as your best self so that you can really represent the company. When you come prepared and focused, it shows you respect the candidate and their time.

I share one more tip for better recruiting and hiring of restaurant hiring managers. Use them when conducting an interview for your next open position, and see how they go!
