HomeTeam Inspection Service, the 200-plus-unit home inspection concept, has proven itself as a welcoming organization for owners of all backgrounds, including military veterans. Vernon Jones, who now owns a HomeTeam Inspection Service business with his wife, Sherricka, has cross-applied skills learned all throughout his career to his most recent venture. The two have been operating their Louisiana territory for nearly two years and have big plans for the future.

“You have to have discipline and be prepared for change,” he explained. “When you get calls, people are expecting great customer service. You may get the same type of call three times in a row, and the fourth time you go, it’s totally different. You have to be able to adapt as needed to give customers what they need.”

Vernon has a total of 42 years of service under his belt between the military and the fire department. In the Army, he led a company of military police, managed logistics and ensured operations were prepared and intact for deployments; he retired as Sergeant 1st Class.

“What I’ve noticed, coming into HomeTeam, is the importance of systems,” Sherricka said. “Between the military and fire department, my husband has applied systems. I think that experience helped. Being able to follow a system made a difference and allowed us to move forward with opening our business.”

Sherricka has a background in business and finance and spent the majority of her career in government finance, which positioned her well to evaluate the investment and continue to support building and marketing the business.

“Vernon and Sherricka Jones have been great additions to our franchise organization. Their determination, grit and people skills have contributed greatly to their early success,” said Matt Cook, franchise development manager and Marine Corps veteran. “Here at HomeTeam, we love helping veterans establish themselves as first-time business owners because following processes and procedures come naturally to them. Veterans take direction well but are also well-equipped to think critically and develop their own solutions in real time. As a veteran myself, I couldn’t be more proud to see other veterans succeed within our organization.”

The Joneses agree that the most enjoyable aspect of the business thus far has been the support they have received. Through the systems provided by HomeTeam, the duo has been able to watch their business come to life in real time.

“Seeing the finished product is almost like watching a machine function — I think it’s pretty cool,” Vernon said.

The initial investment range to open a HomeTeam Inspection franchise is $50,100 to $76,800. For more information, visit https://www.hometeamfranchise.com/.
