Homewatch CareGivers, the non-medical in-home care franchise, has reached a major milestone with the opening of its 300th location. The location is owned by Lisa and Myron Dartt, a Kentucky couple who spent years researching franchise opportunities before deciding on the home care industry. Together, they bring backgrounds in education and healthcare and plan to build a business that serves local families while creating something they can eventually pass down to their children.

“I've always been looking for something we could call our own and create a family legacy,” Myron said. “I felt franchising was the best way to own a business because you're following a established system. The franchise offers tried-and-true methods to be successful, and as long as you're willing to work hard, you have a roadmap.”

The Dartts looked at five or six different franchise opportunities over the past several years. In-home care wasn't initially on their list, but that changed after Lisa's mother was diagnosed with cancer and moved into their home.

“It became an eye-opening experience because we saw firsthand how much need there is for in-home care,” Myron said. “Both of our parents are aging, and it changed the way we looked at the industry. Then I started talking with surgeons and hospital administrators I work with, and they all said, 'Let me know when you get open because we'll use you.' That reinforced that we were making the right decision."

Why Homewatch CareGivers

The Dartts said Homewatch CareGivers stood out because of the support they received throughout the franchise process. After speaking with multiple franchisors and asking a lot of questions, they found that the Homewatch CareGivers team was especially open and willing to answer questions.

"They've really been hands-on with us," Lisa said. “For lack of a better phrase, they've held our hand through the whole process. Anything we need, they've either got it or they find it for us. It's made the process much easier.”

The couple also appreciated Homewatch CareGivers' long track record. Founded more than 45 years ago, the brand has built an established operating system, national support network and reputation in the home care industry. Joining an experienced franchise system gave them confidence that they were building their business with a company that had already proven its model.

"When they told us we'd be number 300, we were excited,” Lisa said. “It's a really cool milestone to be part of."

Plans for Growth

The Dartts are opening with two connected territories and hope to continue growing over time. They are also working toward additional licensing that will allow them to provide skilled nursing services in addition to companion and personal care.

"Our hope is to eventually offer skilled nursing because there really aren't many agencies in our area that provide those services," Lisa said. “We're also excited about the technology Homewatch CareGivers offers. It will help clients stay connected with their families and healthcare providers while giving everyone more peace of mind.”

While growing the business is an important goal, the Dartts also want the company to have a positive impact on their community. They hope to build a successful operation that allows them to give back locally while creating a family business their children can one day be part of.

"Once we're established and profitable, we want to be able to give back and help people in ways we might not have been able to otherwise," she said. “That's something we've talked about from the beginning.”

As Homewatch CareGivers celebrates its 300th location, the Dartts are focused on building a business that meets a growing need in their community while laying the foundation for future growth.
