Giving back to communities across the country has always been one of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK*®’s core values. But nearly 10 years ago, the brand’s franchisees came up with an idea that took that mission to the next level.

Back in 2007, local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® owners in Michigan decided that they wanted to go above and beyond their typical charitable efforts. Instead of supporting a pre-existing cause like Toys for Tots or Habitat for Humanity, they wanted to take ownership of their own event. So they put their heads together, and Movers for Moms was born.

The program’s goal is simple: movers collect items and funds to donate to various shelters who serve at risk moms around Mother’s Day. In order to make that goal a reality, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchisees partner with local schools, libraries and community organizations to get the word out.

“It’s so important for our franchisees to be involved with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s Movers for Moms initiative. It’s how we’re able to show people across the country that we really are the movers who care,” said Dawn Kroeger, marketing and communications director for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. “Not only do we take the stress out of moving, we also care about supporting our local communities. We want to give back to the people who have ultimately supported us in our growth and development efforts all over the country.”

At first, Movers for Moms was solely based in Michigan. But after the event started picking up speed, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchisees in other states wanted to get involved as well. So the brand rolled out a turnkey process to bring the program to new communities before opening participation up to anyone in its network. By 2014, the program was so popular among local franchisees that it was no longer an optional event. All of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s owners now participate in its annual Movers for Moms program.

That system wide participation has allowed the initiative to experience consistent growth. In 2016 alone, Movers for Moms collected 285,000 items nationwide, a 20 percent increase from the year before.

“Movers for Moms is a perfect example of how our franchisees are driving TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® forward. What started as a simple idea among a few of our franchisees has become the signature outreach event for our entire brand,” said Kroeger. “We’re excited to continue expanding the program in the months and years ahead. While our franchisees give back all year long, it’s a great time to come together as an organization and work toward the same charitable goal.”
