California-based multi-unit Round Table Pizza® franchisee Paul Gill has been working in the food industry for as long as he can remember. Over the years, he’s learned that being successful boils down to just one thing: people.

“I learned a long time ago that we’re not in the food business,” said Gill, who also owns Subway franchises and multiple Yogurtland locations. “We’re in the people business. We must love our guests, and we must love our team.”

For entrepreneurs looking to become franchisees, Gill says they need to be prepared to “own it.” “It’s not a passive investment,” he said. “You need to support your team, do field visits, validate guest experiences and be engaged in the business.”

In order to accomplish that, franchisees need to love what they do. “You know what they say,” Gill added. “If you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life.”
