Hundreds of Family Dollar Stores Will be Closed, Renamed

Dollar Tree acquired Family Dollar in 2015.

Almost 400 Family Dollar stores will be closed in 2019 and approximately 200 more will have their name changed, according to a USA Today report.

The news comes as some major retail companies announce their own store closures. While business may not be booming for some of these brick and mortar locations, the closures mean that a great deal of business real estate will open up.

Dollar Tree already closed 84 underperforming Family Dollar stores in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to the article. Family Dollar, which was acquired by Dollar Tree in 2015, will also test increased prices in some stores, according to the article.
