After 40 years of success in medical device sales, Joe Arico always wondered what it would be like to own his own business. Despite his busy schedule as a sales rep managing a team of 11, the idea of entrepreneurship had crossed his mind numerous times, but he wasn’t sure where to start.

That’s where Integrity Franchise Group, led by franchise consultant Lisa Welko, came into the picture. Arico recalls how the process began with a simple conversation: “Lisa called me and asked if I was interested in an automotive repair shop franchise. At that point, I wasn’t ready for something as hands-on as that, so I told her I had a few spare hours a week but didn’t want a brick-and-mortar business.”

Welko listened carefully and worked with Arico to narrow down options that fit his needs for flexibility, simplicity and scalability. Integrity Franchise Group stands out for its commitment to providing personalized, knowledgeable and comprehensive support to its clients. In the early 2000s, Welko started her own franchise system, Ellipse Fitness, and operated as a franchisor before eventually selling the concept 15 years later. She’s also currently a multi-unit franchise owner of GameDay Men’s Health, along with her husband. In 2014, she decided to turn her attention toward helping other entrepreneurs like Arico achieve their goals by founding her own franchise brokerage, Integrity Franchise Group.

“Lisa and I spent a lot of time talking about what due diligence looked like, what to expect from the franchise documents and how to find the right fit,” said Arico. “She started by asking basic questions about our interests — personality tests — and then matched us with franchises. She herself is a franchise owner, so she spoke from experience and that was great.”

From the beginning, Arico says he was open to entertaining any type of franchise concept. “We looked at concession machines, home maintenance, HVAC, painting, etc.” he said. “But as I did my due diligence and looked further, I realized I wasn’t really interested in doing any of those things.”

In 2023, Arico’s journey with Integrity Franchise Group ultimately led him to invest in Clothes Bin, a textile recycling company that aligned with his vision for a business that didn’t require full-time attention.

“I ended up with Clothes Bin because it’s basically passive income,” said Arico. “There’s no need to manage a store or constant customer interaction — just a simple process. If a driver calls out sick, I can do the work myself. You drive a truck to a bunch of bins and load the clothes into a trailer. It’s not rocket science.”

The fact that Arico could continue his full-time job while running his franchise was a crucial selling point. “In my position, managing people in a complicated company, I can’t just drop everything,” he said. “With Clothes Bin, I can manage it in my spare time, and it’s progressing just as we planned.”

Reflecting on his experience working with Welko and Integrity Franchise Group, Arico notes how smooth and supportive the process was. “Lisa did an amazing job helping us navigate everything,” he said. “She was always there to guide us and answer questions, and I’ve even referred her to some of my friends because of how great the experience was.”

Looking ahead, Arico is excited about his franchise’s potential, especially as he nears retirement. “In about four years, I’ll be close to retiring from my full-time job, and this business will be a great supplement to my income when that time comes,” he says.

Arico’s story is a testament to the power of finding the right franchise fit through personalized guidance. His experience with Integrity Franchise Group highlights how Welko’s hands-on approach and deep understanding of the franchising world make a difference for aspiring entrepreneurs.
