Subway, one of the world’s largest restaurant brands, has appointed Jonathan Fitzpatrick as its new chief executive officer, the company announced Monday. Fitzpatrick will officially take on the role July 28, 2025, following a comprehensive executive search.
A veteran in the franchising and quick-service restaurant industry, Fitzpatrick brings more than 20 years of leadership experience to the role. He most recently served as president and CEO of Driven Brands, where he guided the company through 17 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth. His appointment comes as Subway continues efforts to modernize its image, enhance franchisee profitability and expand its global presence.
"I'm honored to lead this iconic brand that has been serving guests around the world for 60 years," Fitzpatrick said in a statement. "Subway has a solid foundation built on decades of providing freshly made, better-for-you options with value and convenience. I'm excited by the opportunity to shape the future of the company, working alongside our valued franchisees and employees to help drive increased sales and franchisee profitability and grow our brand around the world."
Before joining Driven Brands, Fitzpatrick held multiple senior leadership roles at Burger King, including executive vice president and chief brand and operations officer. There, he spearheaded the most extensive menu overhaul in the brand’s history, streamlined operations and redesigned the customer experience, all while helping to modernize Burger King’s global image.
Subway said Fitzpatrick will collaborate closely with interim CEO Carrie Walsh to ensure a smooth transition.
The leadership change comes as Subway continues to evolve through its Fresh Forward initiative, a global modernization program that includes restaurant design updates, menu enhancements and digital innovation. The brand operates thousands of locations across more than 100 countries and has been actively positioning itself for renewed growth following recent changes in ownership and operations.
Fitzpatrick’s appointment signals a continued push toward revitalization and strategic global expansion under experienced leadership.
