QSR Magazine recently published an article highlighting the recent announcement of Layne’s Chicken Fingers’ mascot, the Astro Chicken, to “Chief Finger Officer.” Layne’s Chicken Fingers, the Soon to be Famous™, eight-unit chicken franchise based in Texas, will not be giving Astro Chicken the ability to make executive decisions, however, the appointment is strategic to the brand’s growth across its home state and beyond.

“The Astro Chicken represents everything that we and our employees live by at Layne’s,” says Samir Wattar, Layne’s Chief Operating Officer.

The Astro Chicken is more than just an illustration of the brand’s core menu offerings. It represents the playfulness the franchise encourages for not only customers, but franchisees, store-level employees and the corporate team.

“The chicken is kind of a ridiculous animal,” Watter said. “It’s carefree, it walks around in figure eights pecking at the ground. It even tries to fly even though it can’t. It’s hard not to smile or laugh when you watch a chicken. It’s a reminder that we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously and that we should be having fun.”

Since launching franchise opportunities last year, Layne’s Chicken Fingers has signed 40 franchise agreements, 35 of those being in its home state of Texas. The brand is looking to expand across the country with a franchise agreement recently signed in Washington DC and is in talks with prospective franchisees in Pennsylvania, Ohio and New Jersey.
